So many things bring people to therapy.
You might feel completely overwhelmed and are struggling to keep your emotions from taking over.
Or maybe your mind is going a mile a minute, and you can’t find any peace.
Perhaps you go through your days on autopilot, feeling disconnected and not having much to look forward to.
Have you had some major losses or transitions that have put you in a tailspin?
Or maybe you feel your life has not turned out the way you wanted.
It can be hard to know whether to start therapy.
You might wonder if you need help or can handle things on your own. You go back and forth in your mind wondering if anything can help.
You’re used to figuring things out on your own, but you are feeling overwhelmed. You’ve tried talking to your friends and family, but they don’t understand. You’ve read some self-help books, but this doesn’t feel like a DIY project.
It might help you to know that even if you CAN handle things on your own, therapy can get you there faster.
No matter your struggle, therapy can help.
Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all experience. But, no matter what, you can count on my lending you a compassionate ear and guiding you toward a deeper understanding of yourself:
Express your deepest fears, regrets, or losses without judgment.
Therapy is a safe place for you to explore all your emotions, even the ones that are the toughest to bear. I will gently help you express the hurts that are inside you. I know that this is hard. I also know that accepting your feelings and talking about them is part of the healing process. Working through difficult emotions can free you up to live more fully in the present.
Gain clarity about what’s most important in your life.
With so many competing demands, it may be hard to get in touch with what truly matters to you. You may have trouble accessing your inner voice.
Too often, the voices and expectations of others overcome your own needs and wishes.
By talking about your conflicted feelings, you can begin to discern your true self from outside voices. Keeping track of and learning to understand your dreams can be an effective way to access your innermost truths.
Unravel complicated issues in your life.
Therapy is a collaborative process in which I help guide you on the path of self-discovery. It isn’t necessarily a linear path. Sometimes we will take detours, like exploring things from your past that get in the way of your present fulfillment. Or maybe we will explore whether intergenerational trauma is affecting you.
These “detours” will help shed light on your present-day difficulties so you can heal from your pain.
Discover patterns that are holding you back.
Therapy can help reveal recurring patterns in your thoughts, feelings, or relationships. For example, one might discover a pattern of only being attracted to emotionally unavailable partners or feeling overly responsible for others in relationships. By uncovering these patterns rooted in the past, you can make more mindful choices in your life.
Learn better ways to cope with life’s challenges.
We all need practical tools to cope with hard feelings and situations. I can help you learn ways to manage stress and anxiety through mindfulness practices. I can help you tone down your inner critic with self-compassion practices. I can also help you discover ways to be present with yourself when you are experiencing distressing emotions.
This is the most important thing for you to do in therapy…
Show up, be present, and be open about what’s on your mind.
When you come to therapy, it is YOUR time. As you become more comfortable in therapy, I hope you will talk freely and openly about what’s on your mind. It doesn’t have to be the same thing we talked about last week.
It’s essential to be present on a felt level, not just a cognitive level. Take a deep breath. Relax. Allow yourself to be fully present with your inner experiences.
Therapy is not always comfortable. Tough feelings or memories can surface. When this happens, it’s important to remember that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
It’s time for you to lessen your burdens – to live with greater ease.
I am ready to help you start your journey of self-discovery toward newfound energy and fulfillment in your life.
It would be my pleasure to talk with you during a free 15-minute phone consultation to see if we’re a good fit for each other.
